王穀祥

王榖gu祥 (1501-1568),字禄之,号酉室,长洲(今江苏苏州)人。嘉靖八年(一五二九)进士,官吏部员外郎。善写生,渲染有法度,意致独到,即一枝一叶,亦有生色。为士林所重。中年绝不肯落笔,凡人间所传者,皆赝本也。书仿晋人,不坠羲之献之之风,篆籀八体及摹印,并臻妙品。卒年六十八。

人物简介

王穀祥进士及第,官至吏部员外郎。在官场失意,弃官归里,入文征明之门。擅画花鸟,介于工笔与写意之间,也工书法篆刻。用笔自如清新,顿挫有力,画面文人气息浓厚,具有一定寓意和古拙朴厚的妙趣。中年以后,从不轻易为人作画,流传颇多赝品。传世作品有《山仙春梅扇面》,藏上海博物馆;《桂石图》轴,藏北京故宫博物院;《书画合册》,藏辽宁省博物馆。
王穀祥书法为画名所掩,他的书法主要受吴门书家影响,笔法苍劲有力,结体张弛有致,整幅作品上下呼应,左右映带,血脉相通,气贯神溢。
       中年之后,王榖祥便不肯执笔,故其传世墨迹甚少。王世贞在《艺苑卮言》中云:“王吏部榖祥,正、行法赵吴兴,虽老健而乏雅致。”这里说的“老健而乏雅致”,确切而言就是指他的书法于秀挺俊逸中透着“野趣”。
     王榖祥19岁就与文徵明有交,后从其游历,师之书画,字行之间留有文氏书学的踪迹。王榖祥受文徵明影响,遍学诸体。明皇甫访在《司勋集》中云:“榖祥书仿晋人,不坠右军、大令之风;篆籀八体,并臻妙品。”因未能见到其篆籀作品,不能妄自揣测。上海博物馆藏有王觳祥的小楷《庾信马射赋》,千余字,行间紧密,而无壅塞之感,变化多端的结字彰显出深厚的书学底蕴。
    王毅祥曾师法赵孟頫,后直追晋人,深谙“二王”书风之神韵。然其多从今人窥前贤,借助他人的理解和诠释造法古人,以致在本派门墙中打转,终不能有所大成。“华亭派”健将莫是龙在《莫廷韩集》中指出:“(吴门书派)皆文氏一笔书,初未尝经目古帖,意在佣作,而以笔札为市道,岂复能振其神理,托之豪翰,图不朽业乎?”可谓一语道出王榖祥及文氏后学隐没于文徵明的光环之下,未能有所创新、突破,成自家面貌的根源所在。

作品简介

行书《九歌》
       此卷为王穀祥所书《骚赋》之《九歌》。笔势自由流畅,结构略现欹侧,时有章草笔意。
       《九歌》是《楚辞》篇名。原为传说中的一种远古歌曲的名称,战国楚人屈原据民间祭神乐歌改作或加工而成。共十一篇:《东皇太一》、《云中君》、《湘君》、《湘夫人》、《大司命》、《少司命》、《东君》、《河伯》、《山鬼》、《国殇》、《礼魂》。《国殇》一篇,是悼念和颂赞为楚国而战死将士;多数篇章,则皆描写神灵间的眷恋,表现出深切的思念或所求未遂的伤感。王逸说是屈原放逐江南时所作。但现代研究者多认为作于放逐之前,仅供祭祀之用。
       《花卉图轴》现藏北京故宫博物馆
此图绘灵芝几株,湖石挺立,桂花盛开。浓墨点苔,桂花树和灵芝刻画细腻,墨色渲染浓淡相间,富于变化,表现出桂花繁茂盛开的层次感。该幅笔法精谨,布局严整,明显受到了文徵明画法的影响。
        从该幅作者和文徵明的题诗可知,此图是为庆贺“芝室”先生秋闱(音围,指科举考试)之喜而作。当时文人图绘桂花祝贺“折桂”之人的做法很流行。该幅的巧妙之处在于作者绘的灵芝和山石正好与受画者的字号“芝室”谐音,再加之刻意描绘恣肆怒放的折枝桂花,使全幅生动地传达出“芝室折桂”的蕴意和对芝室“最是先枝君折取”的贺喜。
