王愫 清 字存素，号林屋，一号朴庐，江苏太仓诸生，侨居苏州。原祁侄。山水乾墨重笔不加渲染，得元人简澹法。绛笔竹石尤妙。间作青绿设色，亦绰有原祁秀韵。特笔意薄弱未能浑厚，故秀润中无高古之趣，与王昱、王玖、王宸称（小四王）。尝为王兰泉司寇画三泖渔庄图，分春、夏、秋、冬四帧。工诗词，与诸名士倡和，每作画必自题诗。著林屋诗馀。朴庐存稿中附论画一卷。乾隆二十八年（一七六三）尝作天香染袖图扇藏故官博物院。卒年八十六。主要作品有：《清画家诗史》、《华海堂集》、《怀旧集》、《今画偶录》、《墨林今话》、《桐阴论画》、《明清画家印鉴》
