丁羲元(1942.2—)上海人。擅长美术史论。1960年在大学学习中国文学。1979年于中国艺术研究院攻读美术史研究生。曾在上海艺术研究所从事研究工作，任上海美术馆副馆长、研究馆员。论著有《虚谷研究》、《任伯年》、《无笔画及其它》等。
丁羲元是蔡若虹、王朝闻的高足，并师事宗白华先生。然而，上世纪六十年代他大学里学的却是文学，“文革”结束后，1979成为首届中国艺术研究院美术史研究生，后来任上海美术馆副馆长、研究员，复旦大学兼职教授等，1987年任日本国立学术振兴会特约研究员，曾任美国堪萨斯大学等校访问学者。丁羲元习惯上会在文章写成后存放数年，才正式发表，然而，他的论文一旦发表，则都能引起轰动性效应。这主要在于他善发一些不苟于同，颠覆旧说的新论，而这一新论又是完全基于学术的观点，有理有据，站得住脚。
