廖军，苏州工艺美院、苏州大学教授，博士研究生导师，中国美术家协会会员、工信部工业文化中心工艺美术创新研究院院长、中国轻工业联合会中国工艺美术大师工作委员会专家委员、中国美协工艺美术艺委会委员，江苏省有突出贡献的中青年专家，江苏省雕塑家协会副主席。
曾任苏州工艺美院院长，苏州大学艺术学院院长、党委书记，苏州大学研究生部主任，教育部高等学校艺术类专业教学指导委员会委员、艺术设计类专业教学指导分委员会副主任委员，国务院学位委员会全国艺术硕士专业学位教育指导委员会委员等。
著作和画册有《视觉艺术思维》、《写意花鸟技法》、《当代美术家作品──廖军》、《当代实力派画家廖军──画风研究》、《中国服饰百年》、 《装饰动物图案集》、 《外国服装设计名家名作》、《服装与心理》、《服装效果图1000例》等十余种，主编国家级、省部级“十一五”规划教材、普通高校教材近百本。撰写并发表专业学术论文六十余篇。获得过教育部和江苏省社科人文奖励。
国画、书法作品曾多次参加国内外各类展出并有获奖，部分作品还在《美术》、《装饰》等专业刊物上发表。近年来多次在日本、澳大利亚、美国、法国、意大利、瑞士、英国等国家和我国香港、台湾地区进行学术交流、讲学和举办书画展，许多作品被国内有关机构、个人和国外友人收藏。
