刘二刚，生于江苏镇江。祖籍天津。笔名二刚。1959年开始从事美术工作。画过广告、布景、油画像等。1966-1977年投入宣传画、连环画、漫画、文学插图创作。1978年进镇江中国画院开始专业国画创作。1979-1985年补读十年书。游历五岳诸名胜；寻访古代文化遗址，得写生稿和笔记五十余本。作书法和诗词。1986-1991年研究中国画论，比较中西文化。先后在江苏省美术馆、北京中国画研究院举办个人画展。参加南斯拉夫中国现代绘画展、韩国现代中国画代表作家展、美国现代中国画家小品展等。随江苏书画代表团赴日本访问。江苏美术出版社出版《刘二刚书画选集》。1992-1996年赴吉隆坡举办个人画展。参加历届中国新文人画展暨研讨会；参加第二届国际水墨画展、张力与表现水墨展以及多种大型学术活动。结集诗文由上海书画出版社出版《庙亭山随笔》；北京荣宝斋出版《二刚国画小品集》；湖北美术出版社出版《二刚漫谈少年学国画》等。结业于中国艺术研究院中国画名家研修班。应江苏省国画院特聘画师。现为《江苏画刊》编辑，高级美术师。
