刘建平，男，江西南昌人，出生于1956年6月，1981年毕业于江西师范大学美术系，毕业后曾分别任职宜春电影公司，宜春地区文联，1996年回到江西师范大学美术学院任教。2003年3月－2004年3月被国家教育基金委公派赴俄罗斯莫斯科国立师范大学试学。1986年参加中国版画家协会，1987年加入中国美术家协会，现任中国水彩艺委会副会长，秘书长，江西师范大学美术学院教授、硕导。
美术作品多次参加全国美术作品展览，并多次获国家级优秀奖、中国美术馆、中央美院，中国美院收藏，国家美术专业刊物上发表，作品多次分别在美国，日本、丹麦、台湾等地区展览，被国外国家美术馆、私人收藏。
近3年科研成果，艺术活动主要有：05年由江西美术出版社出版专著《画室人体》一部（第一作者）；05年由全国中文核心期刊《江西社会科学》刊登《物态化意象与自身心灵化意象重合一再论艺术欣赏》；05年全国中文核心期刊《江西教育科研》刊登《我国艺术设计教育现代及美术新课程改革》；07年在全国核心期刊《中国美术教育》发表作品《索拉委茨红墙外的白舟》；05、07年组织全省水彩、粉画展二次，分别组织40多名学生参展，其中获金奖十个，银奖八个，铜奖五个，本人水彩画《修女》、《雨后》分别获得金奖二次。获得一次江西省教育厅颁发的江西省优秀指导教师奖。获江西省水彩、粉画展组织奖。
