刘菊清,女,1929年出生于江苏省武进县。1948年考入杭州国立艺专(现中国美术学院)。1953年毕业于绘画系,分配到无锡东华艺专(现南京艺术学院)美术系彩墨画教研室,从事中国人物画的教学和创作。并师从俞剑华先生学习中国绘画史和中国画论。1959年起改专业为工笔花鸟画。先后师从陈之佛、谢稚柳、陈佩秋诸先生。在名师指导下,在艺术实践中,研究工笔花鸟画的创作、教学和理论。

(1929.10—) 别名阿菊,女,南京艺术学院教授。著名工笔花鸟画家。1929年生,武进奔牛人。1945年就读于树人中学(今奔牛中学),1948年考入杭州国立艺专(今中国美术学院),1953年毕业于中央美术学院华东分院绘画系后在南京艺术学院从事中国画教学,1959年起专攻工笔花鸟画教学与创作。历任江苏省花鸟画研究会副会长,江苏省年画研究会理事,中国美术家协会会员,中国工笔画学会会员,南京艺术学院美术系副教授。曾到南京、苏州、上海等多家博物园(馆)临摹两宋、明清绘画真迹,师从陈之佛、谢稚柳、陈佩秋、刘海粟、吴湖帆等,作品有《 搏浪》、《夜深沉》、《鸟倦飞而知还》等。与人合作的《松鹤长寿》中堂印行发行达500万份。
由于她对大自然不间断的体察、对画理画法的探求和实践,以及她的学养,她执着的务新求变的精神,她的作品构思常发奇想,表现方法变数多,作品风格“在典雅中生机勃发,奇趣中诗情洋溢”。她的作品参加过各种展览,不少作品或出版,或被收藏。从理论研究方面,二十世纪七十年代起,发表过多篇专业论文,其中1987年发表的《工笔花鸟画的写意》,有着较高学术价值,而2002年江苏美术出版社出版的《工笔花鸟画》一书,则是她对几十年的教学和创作研究的专著。
她1989年评为教授,是中国美术家协会、中国工笔画学会会员,江苏省花鸟研究会顾问。[1]
作品多次参加全国和江苏省的展览,在国内外多次举办个人展览和联展,多次入选全国性画册,《中华之春》中堂画在香港展出后,引起轰动。在北京办展,《人民日报》、《光明日报》、《中国日报》等二十多家报刊予以介绍。中央电视台《东方时空》“东方之子”报道。先后出版《刘菊清花鸟画的写生与创作》等书,主编出版《江苏省花鸟画集》,发表论文多篇。
