李世倬（1687―1770）字天章，一字汉章、天涛，别号十石居士、太平拙吏、伊祁山人、清在号谷斋，又号菉园、星厓，居士，奉天（今辽宁沈阳）人，一作三韩（今内蒙喀喇沁旗西南）人，隶籍汉军正黄旗。如龙子，高其佩（1672—1734）外甥。官至副都御史。曾任太常，人称李太常。
善画山水、人物、花鸟、果品，各臻其妙。少随父宦游江南，见王翚（1632—1717）得其讲论，后与马逸游，故宗法纯正而笔亦秀隽。其人物，自言得吴道子水陆道场图而阅之，遂悟其法。其花鸟、果品各种写意，盖得诸舅氏之指墨而易以笔，故能各名一家。晚年喜用指墨作人物、花鸟小品，以焦墨细擦，颇得轻重浅深之致。年逾八旬犹能作画，书小楷。

少年时随父宦游江南，得王翚画学之理，后又与马昂（退山）游历，所作山水秀润，笔法淳厚。人物学吴道子笔法，花鸟、果品各种写意则改其舅氏指画为笔画，写意传神，颇有生趣。晚年写人物、花鸟、小品，以焦墨细擦，得轻重浅深之致，神韵倍增，自具风貌。传世作品有雍正三年(1725)作《杂画册》、十一年(1733)作《钟馗策蹇载酒图》轴(指画)，现藏辽宁省博物馆；《溪山访友图》轴、《嵩祝图》卷藏沈阳故宫博物院；《亭林山色图》轴、《牡丹图》轴藏上海博物馆；《清舒山馆图》轴藏故宫博物院；《秋雨江南图》轴藏广州美术馆。
且说李世倬幼年跟舅舅高其佩学习指画，几乎学到乱真出奇的地步。有一次，高其佩正在作《岁朝图》，当画到一半时，忽报有客来访。高其佩见来人远道而来，离开画案，洗净蘸满墨汁的手，把客人请至会客厅叙旧。
李世倬正痴痴地看着这半幅未完成的画，看的忘情。本想等客人走后继续看舅舅作画，可是见宾主二人欢言甚洽，恐怕一时半会儿结束不了。李世倬面对画案愣神儿，仿佛进入一个境界，不由自主地用手指蘸了墨汁，在舅舅未竟的的画上接着画了起来。画完刚刚洗了手，舅舅已送走客人，来到画室，仔细看了看画，便自语道：“唔，该题个款了！”李世倬见舅舅没有辨认出他的续作，心里暗自高兴。
其实，高其佩已经看出来了，只不过佯装不知，也暗自高兴：“世倬外甥的画技长进如此之快，孺子可教也！”以后，一遇到索画甚急，他也让外甥替他完成。据说，高其佩有一些大幅指画就是由李世倬等代画的。
李世倬到了晚年，年逾八旬，视力不减，还能书小楷，犹能作画。指画技法更加老辣，他曾经自题《岁朝图》云：“指头蘸墨肇自少司寇且园舅氏，古无有也。余稚时效之，舅氏毎令代为之作酬应，悉莫能辨。”（事见《国（清）朝画徵录》、《指头画说》、《讯画闲评》、《墨林今话》、《桐阴论画》、《熙朝名画续录》、《熙朝雅颂集》、《读画辑略》、《清画家诗史》、《八旗画录》。）

三百余年之后，李世倬的水墨立轴作品《长松高士图》，发生了一件趣事。这是一幅极有诗境的画，长松干霄，疏枝散叶，一老者执蒲扇背手立於树下，眯眼望水，神态介乎闲立与若有所思之间，与潇淡疏远的画境极为谐调，这幅画只署名款而留下大片空白——这里似乎大有玄机。
果然，三百多年后，末代王孙溥心畲与另一位大画家张大千看了这幅画后为之倾倒，分别为之写了边跋。
溥心畲看到这幅画时是1956年，其跋语是：“董文敏（董其昌）称怀素书以澹古为宗，杜工部《李潮篆书歌》则云‘书贵瘦硬方通神’，肥腴之笔易於重拙。世称盛子昭繁细不若吴仲圭之潇洒，李成惜墨如金，倪云林霜林远岸即此意也。昔藏李谷斋画仿松雪青绿之笔，虽细润工巧，不若此幅冲淡高致，如读王摩诘、孟山人诗，有出尘遗者之想，所谓以少许胜人者也。画中高士，短衣露顶，背扇闲立，或如右军自写真则不可考矣！丙申初夏，西山逸士溥儒题”。
一百三十余字，从书法到绘画，从笔墨繁细到惜墨如金，从画境到诗境，一连带出十位历史名人，不惟知识渊博，想像丰富，实在是因为李世倬的这幅画给了他太大的美的享受空间，才调动了溥儒如此丰富的联想，以致对画中高士忽发奇想：这是不是当年王右军的自我写真？
后来，张大千看到李世倬的这幅画，振笔题诗：“长松磊役干霄，浅水逶迤汩没。且容老子婆娑，况此清风明月”。接着写道：“此李谷斋生平合作，世不多见者，其布局居然元人胜概，尤非同侪辈所能梦见也。蜀人张大千并识。”
诗中，两句写景，长松、怪石、浅水，各有姿态；两句写人，略带几分佛道意味。然此“老子”非彼老子（著五千言《道德经》的那位），乃普通老翁也！清风明月下，如此良夜何——好诗、好题跋！当年李世倬好像心有灵犀，知道三百年后，一定会有一个叫溥儒的为此画作长语题跋，更会有一个叫张大千的来为此画题诗缀跋，所以他才会在画儿上大片留白。不然，溥儒与大千一左一右的两则妙语题跋，又怎能与画有如此天然妙配呢！
