张宏宾，生于北京。1960年毕业于中央美术学院附中，1965年毕业于中央工艺美术学院壁画专业。
1976年，在山东师范大学任教，担任教授、系主任，并成为中国美术家协会会员。1987年，应邀到美国旧金山州立大学讲学，并为该校人文学院绘制壁画“自然之歌”。1988年，去美国加州麦赛德学院讲学，同年，在美国出版“春之歌”等丝网版画。1990年—1992年，应日本画界邀请，在日本东京、大阪、广岛、京都、奈良、横滨、佐贺等地举办“世界人气作家展”及个人巡回画展。1993年，以“国际杰出画家”身份定居美国。1994年—2000年，在旧金山、洛杉矶、凤凰城、棕榈泉、拉斯维加斯、波士顿、新奥尔良、克罗拉多等城市举办个人画展和联合展览，并入选历届纽约、洛杉矶的国际艺术博览会。2000年，被国内多所艺术院校聘为“特聘教授”，并在北京、山东、四川、深圳等地举办画展。出版有《张宏宾的艺术世界》、《宏宾彩墨》、《张宏宾画集》等。现为著名旅美画家，中国美协会员，美国加州旧金山州立大学教授，山东工艺美术学院特邀教授。
