周午生,祖籍河北任丘。作品曾在北京、上海、天津、广州、兰州、台湾地区及日本、韩国展出并发表。出版有《周午生画选》。2003年《满园清二》参加首届中国北京国际美术双年展序列展全国当代花鸟画艺术大展并获得银奖；2004年《竹石图》参加全国梅兰竹菊中国画大展；2005年在中国美协大连美术馆举办天津美术学院青年教师三人展；获天津青年艺术节十佳优秀青年艺术家称号。《晨露湿新妆》参加2005年全国当代名家邀请展。2006年参加纪念红军长征胜利70周年中国画名家邀请展。《岁朝昌和》参加2006年韩国青年双年展。2007年《松鹰图》参加日本国际现代美术展。应邀参加“水墨气象·中国画学术展”，广州东莞举办首次个展。作品《暗香踪影》入选第3届中国画展。4幅作品参加中国美协第20次新人新作展。

 能工能破，能狂能变！

郑工谈周午生：午生没骨，一次无声息的变革

没骨画不是一个新概念，历代没骨花鸟画也不缺乏大家，但周午生对没骨画的再解释却让他的绘画走出了一片新天地，让他在当代花鸟画领域赢得了自己的地位。中国画的传承性很强，创新不容易，要赢得一席之地更不容易，这不仅需要画家具有质疑与批判的精神，而且还需要对传统有着深刻的理解，需要有深厚的学养与扎实的绘画基础。周午生做到了，并做的很出色。他用他的“没骨法”取代了“兼工带写”的老方法；他“变墨法为彩法点染而就”，强调用笔的重要性，“在极似中求不似”，追神韵达妙趣。故而周午生的画，能工能破，能狂能变，既淡逸又雅正，耐看耐读，令人反复琢磨，体味再三。更因为他知道，“历代创新大家，多吸收没骨法以蘖新生。”（周午生《我对花卉没骨法的一些想法》）故而周午生，能在群雄并峙的当代画坛，悄悄然地以平常心态，利用没骨法进行一次不期引人关注的绘画实验，实现一次无声息的变革。

周午生的绘画实验有两种极端现象，一是极简，一是极繁，也可说一疏一密。其实，或简或繁或疏或密只是表象，不涉及本质问题。因为无论简繁疏密，周午生还是周午生，其绘画的本质不变，所探讨的问题也不变。

所谓简者，即疏体，择其要述之一二，不及其余。绘画的主体十分突出，四周大片留白，画面空灵而生动。这些画多是册页，如《柚子》（2007年）《榴莲》（2012年），以及一批折枝花卉，诸如海棠、山茶、芍药、枇杷、桃花、竹枝、玉兰花、映山红，或间之以湖石、禽鸟，或双钩或墨色晕染，直取形意，画面宁静，蕴含深远。还有近年所作的两幅《猫》（2012年；2013年），极具媚态，周边空无一物。“媚”是一种表情，而周午生画中之“媚”，不仅仅是对象的表情更是画之趣味，散发在画面中的各个细节，极具“雅兴”。雅，是古雅，而“媚”则具有当代性。因此，周午生的画能亲近大众，又远离世俗。从古典的审美原则出发，从用笔的基本法度出发，探求现代艺术的精神，使之绘画能跨越古今，融合中西，消弭工笔与写意的分界，在多种文化的相互渗透中显示着他对“纯粹”与“超然”的理解。如《碧烟染秋》（2008年），略加晕染的背景，空濛而有意境。为什么我们会被周午生的画打动？就因为他知道他为什么要画画，他要表现什么。周午生的绘画意识很明确，关注点很集中，捕捉事物神情的能力也很强，能将一切景语化情语，能将画之空白推向想象的极致，随画之主体而动，构成特殊的绘画语境，并在我们可见的范围之外起作用。简之者的审美原则是意向性而不是被动性的，周午生注意调动观众的视觉经验，同时也在调动自己的审美体验，但他的体验又是建立在对宋元经典绘画阅读的基础上。以此形成审美预期。在周午生新没骨法的实验中，疏体画最能说明他在笔法方面的变革意图。

周午生没有因没骨法限制了自己的创作，他是自由的也是自觉自律的，更重要的是他会思考。激进的文化革命已经过去了，生活还在继续，传统的绘画样式延续着人们的文化记忆。周午生巧妙地掂起了“没骨法”，假借这一传统的概念，将自己的创作纳入到历史的话语系列，使他的画拥有一种厚度。周午生又没有停留在过去，他用包容的方式甚至是混搭的形式重新书写了没骨画在当代的意义，这是他的智慧。
