美术史论从学于王逊、常任侠、金维诺，国画从学于刘凌沧，西画从学于韦启美，书法篆刻问学于刘冰庵，诗文从学于文怀沙，书画鉴定从学于张珩、徐邦达。改革开放后任中央美术学院美术史系主任，多次应邀访问美国、日本、韩国、香港、台湾，曾任美国堪萨斯大学研究员、香港中文大学伟论访问教授、台湾艺术学院客座教授。获文化部优秀专家称号，人事部评为有突出贡献的国家级专家，传记载入英国剑桥传记中心《成就人士录》等世界名人录中。著有《晋唐宋元卷轴画史》、《书画史论丛稿》、《扬州八怪与扬州商业》、《横看成岭侧成峰》、《江山代有才人出》、《蓦然回首》、《华岩研究》等，主编有《中国美术简史》、《中国绘画的历史与审美鉴赏》等。画擅古今人物仕女，亦曾画马，偶作花鸟；书长行书、魏碑、偶作隶书、楷书；印承秦汉，出入浙皖吴赵各家，近已不刻。自1983年参加《张立辰、吴小昌、薛永年、姜宝林书画联展》后，多年潜心学术研究，殊少动笔。

 Xue Yongnian, male, Beijing native, born in November 1941. Famous art historian and art critic. He is currently a professor and doctoral supervisor of the Humanities College of the Central Academy of Fine Arts. Member of the National Cultural Relics Appraisal Committee, Convener of the Painting and Calligraphy Stele Group, Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors and Theory Committee of the Chinese Artists Association, and Member of the Chinese Calligraphers Association. Famous art historians, art critics, painters and calligraphers are also good at painting and calligraphy appraisal. As a teenager, he participated in the Beijing Youth Art Exhibition and Zhang Boju's Calligraphy Competition for Middle School Students, and won prizes. She joined the Beijing Academy of Fine Arts refresher class and participated in the Third Works Exhibition of Beijing Chinese Painting Research Association. She graduated from the Department of Art History of the Central Academy of Fine Arts and graduated from the undergraduate and research courses.

History of fine arts was studied by Wang Xun, permanent chivalrous, Jin Weinuo, Chinese painting by Liu Lingcang, Western painting by Wei Qimei, calligraphy and seal carving by Liu Bingan, poetry by Wen Huaisha, calligraphy and painting appraisal by Zhang Heng and Xu Bangda. After the reform and opening up, he was the chairman of the Department of Fine Arts History of the Central Academy of Fine Arts. He has been invited to visit the United States, Japan, Korea, Hong Kong and Taiwan on many occasions. He has been a researcher at the University of Kansas in the United States, a visiting professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and a visiting professor at the Taiwan Academy of Art. He has been awarded the title of Excellent Expert of the Ministry of Culture and has been awarded the National Expert with outstanding contribution by the Ministry of Personnel. He has been recorded in the World Celebrity List such as The Achievement Personnel of Cambridge Biography Center, UK. His works include The History of Scroll Painting in Jin, Tang, Song and Yuan Dynasties, Series of Articles on the History of Calligraphy and Painting, Yangzhou Bawei and Yangzhou Commerce, Chengling Ridge Beyond the Peak, Talented Persons in Jiangshan Dynasty, Suddenly Looking Back, Hua Yan Research, etc. His chief editors are Brief History of Chinese Fine Arts, History and Aesthetic Appreciation of Chinese Painting, etc. Painting is good at ancient and modern figures and ladies, but also has painted horses, occasional flowers and birds; calligrapher's line book, Wei stele, occasional official script, regular script; printed in the Qin and Han Dynasties, in and out of Zhejiang, Anhui, Wu and Zhao families, nearly a moment. Since 1983, when he participated in the joint exhibition of Zhang Lichen, Wu Xiaochang, Xue Yongnian and Jiang Baolin, he has devoted himself to academic research for many years, but rarely started to write.
