张元，1955年生于北京市，1984年毕业于中央美院，现为中央美术学院教授，油画系材料艺术工作室主任，中国美术家协会会员，中国美协油画艺委会副主任兼秘书长，1995年至1997年公派赴法国学习考察，曾在巴黎国际艺术城及法国北方诸城市(Lille.Douai．mors)举办个展联展。作品“夏风”入选巴黎大皇宫(Grand Palais)法兰西艺术家沙龙，1997年回国后为中央美术学院油画系创建“材料与表现艺术工作室”，并主持教学至今。2001年上海马利画材公司和中央美术学院油画系材料表现壬作室合作，建立“材料艺术创作奖学金”。工作室创建中国油画修复与保护研究中心。工作室创建材料艺术实验室等国家级项目。2009年至今参与组织中国美协油画艺术委员会举办的《吾土吾民系列油画邀请展》西北展、东北展、江南展、华南展、西南展。

Zhang Yuan, born in Beijing in 1955 and graduated from the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 1984, is now a professor of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, director of material art studio of the Department of Oil Painting, member of the Chinese Artists Association, deputy director and secretary-general of the Chinese Association of Fine Arts Oil Painting Arts Committee.
