《第八日》（还有导演的前一部作品）几乎将法国电影中我不喜欢的部分发挥到极致，但它确实能够引发思考，像一篇“世界上最美丽的法文”、“新概念法语”（假如有的话）那样触动人的情绪。全片角色没有主动去解决任何一个问题，没有挑战过自己的本意。乔治的姐姐无法收留他，哈里就把他带走了。哈里不能收留他，就把他送回治疗所了。乔治无法面对现实，就选择了跳楼。导演推进故事选择运用那么多的虚实结合、夸张手法和大量配乐未免太任性了点。但它的真诚在于很少有电影能够如此地直接、正面地描述障碍人士的内心，《阿甘》只是一出美国梦。令我联想起的是完美的《天堂的颜色》，这可能与由真实障碍人出演有关。《第八日》和《天堂的颜色》可能不会让电影系学生在专业上有多少领会，但它能够改变普通观众面对与自己不同的人的方式。电影作为第七艺术不高于任何艺术也不低于任何艺术，它可以和任何艺术那样无限地接近现实、改变现实。
上帝在七天中创造了美好的一切，但是他需要人来欣赏他的创造，所以在第八日创造了乔治。乔治才是美的开始。缺陷和不幸是天赋，要求太多、忘记感恩的人只会受到惩罚。哈里对他的学员说“相似不会引发任何注重，不同才会”。大街上偶然碰到一匹沉默负重的马或者一头长相怪异的犬，会马上深深地触动你。马儿和你旁边的路人、障碍人和正常人在我们潜意识中代表的东西是不同的，激发的情感也就是不同的，因而他们是不同的。我们如此关注不同，只不过是在关注自己的情感，只有控制自身情感反应，才能真正忘记不同、接受不同。乔治也在强调他和其他患者的不同，我和别人不一样，我比任何人都期望渴望得到爱，我无法接受母亲和娜塔莉的离开。乔治对巧克力过敏，他不许吃这种美味的食物。最后他手捧一盒巧克力来到大楼的楼顶。自杀也一样，不过是碰不得的过敏症。
最重要的是，感谢这部电影让我听到了非常棒、非常棒的Genesis的JESUS HE KNOWS ME（乔治在荧幕前起舞的那段配乐）

剧情
蒙古症患者乔治在母亲死后，被胞妹和妹夫遗弃在一家疗养院里。他一生中最爱的人是他的母亲，常常在恍惚间与母亲相会。一个偶然的机会，乔治遇到了银行职员夏里——一个终日生活在乏味机械世界里的小职员，不想两人竟成为好友，夏里从乔治的身上重新认识了生活，并渐渐改变了自己的人生态度。
