此为画家52岁时的佳作,图写蜀葵盛开,阔叶疏落,块石伶仃,暑气淡然。全幅笔法多为粗简,横涂竖抹可见纵放洒脱的襟怀,用色不求艳丽,雄肆浑厚流露沉着痛快的风格,布局明快爽朗,脱略恣纵尽显气势之胜。论者以为其画“苍老浑古,墨气淋漓,有乱头粗服之致”,确是的评。
自题:“乾隆十二年(1747)夏初,写于梅花楼,晴江李方膺”。钤“仙李”(朱文方印),“晴江的笔”(白文方印)。
