图绘凋零的树木被笼罩在深秋的寒意中,一湖静水之上只见高士孤身垂钓,空旷荒寂的意境中孕含着作者对明朝故土的无限怀念。此图无年款,根据署款“驴”字,推断此幅为朱耷57岁(1682年)左右的作品。这时期其山水画还深受元人倪瓒、黄公望,明人董其昌的影响而没有形成自己的笔墨特色。本幅构图取法倪瓒一河两岸式的布局,以简洁疏朗的物象表现出荒寒的萧条景致。山石画法取自黄公望,其轮廓以尖硬的线条勾勒,石面略作皴染,于散漫随意中不失古雅的情趣。整体画风则显现出董其昌明洁秀逸、华姿润泽的艺术风貌。

The picture of withered trees was shrouded in the cold of late autumn. On the still water of a lake, only Gaoshi was fishing alone. In the empty and lonely mood, the author's infinite yearning for the native land of the Ming Dynasty was pregnant. This picture has no yearly payment. According to the word "donkey" of the signature, it is inferred that this work is about 57 years old (1682) of Zhu Ji. During this period, his landscape paintings were deeply influenced by Ni Zan and Huang Gongwang of the Yuan Dynasty, while Dong Qichang of the Ming Dynasty did not form his own characteristics of pen and ink. The composition of this picture is based on the layout of both sides of Nizan River, showing the desolate and depressive scenery with simple and sparse images. Huang Gongwang's paintings of mountains and stones are taken from his paintings. Their outlines are outlined with sharp lines and the stone surface is slightly stained. They are not lost in the casual and elegant taste. The overall painting style shows Dong Qichang's artistic style of being bright, clean, elegant and graceful.
