户外湖石玲珑，彩蝶起舞，萱草含芳。室内仕女手持葫芦倚案静思。此画描绘的虽是仕女夏日休闲的情景，表达的却是乞生贵子的吉祥意愿。萱草，又名忘忧、鹿葱。《草木记》谓“妇女怀孕，佩其花必生男”，因此，萱草以有助于孕妇生子，又有“宜男萱”之美称。葫芦，属于生命力旺盛的多籽植物，常被用以喻“百子”之意。画家巧妙地将萱草与葫芦分别绘于石侧、掌中，既增加了画面的观赏性，又蕴涵了求子的深意。

图中女子“倚风娇无力”的仪态反映了清代仕女画在创作上追求女性“风露清愁”之韵致的审美情趣。桌上的围棋盘则暗示出女子平日闺阁中清玩之雅性，与衬景木匾上所书的“清音”形成呼应。

Outdoor Lake stone exquisite, butterflies dance, Hemerocallis fragrant. Indoor ladies hold gourds and meditate on the case. Although this painting depicts a lady's summer leisure scene, it expresses the auspicious wish of begging for a noble son. Hemerocallis fulva, also known as forget worries, deer onion. "Cao Mu Ji" said that "when a woman is pregnant, she will have a man if she wears her flowers." Therefore, Hemerocallis fulva is known as "Yiman Xuan" because it helps pregnant women to have children. Cucurbita is a vigorous multi-seeded plant, which is often used to describe the meaning of "Baizi". The painter skillfully painted Hemerocallis fulva and gourd on the stone side and palm respectively, which not only increased the viewing of the picture, but also contained the deep meaning of seeking son.

The women's "relying on the wind, charming and powerless" manner in the picture reflects the aesthetic taste of the Qing Dynasty's women's paintings in pursuit of the feminine charm of "wind, dew and clear sorrow".
