This picture is made by Zhu Jin at the age of 71. The whole scene is concise, drawing a white cat crouching on the top of the stone, hunched back, and integrated with the rocks. It closed its eyes and looked at the beautiful scenery of lotus, orchid and so on. Apparently, the author employs symbolic metaphor to combine objective images with subjective consciousness skillfully and implicitly. He used the calm cat as a metaphor for his seclusion under the rule of the Qing Dynasty. In the picture, lotus leaves and nameless flowers and plants are painted with ink-splashing method, which forms a visual black-and-white contrast with white sketches, fewer cats and stones. Variations in depth and shade of different tones enrich the spatial level of the picture, thus making the whole volume both full and empty.
