任熊25岁时在浙江钱塘与周闲结交,彼此成为艺术上的挚友。任熊应邀寓居周闲的范湖草堂三年,潜心研究古画并时时与周闲探讨画理,游戏于笔墨间。此幅便是任熊绘画、周闲题词的合璧之作,它不仅印证了二人间的交游,亦表明了该图的大致创作年代,即为任熊25至28岁之间的作品。此图绘一树寒梅,枝干纵横交错,花朵绽放争荣。一仕女迎着凛冽的寒风探幽寻梅而来。梅树以没骨法表现,用富于浓淡变化的深浅墨笔绘枝干,以白粉戳点花瓣,点染随意,不合物理,但颇具鲜活灵动性。仕女的画法承袭了改琦、费丹旭的笔墨风格,眉目清秀间流露着丝丝闺怨之情,体态轻盈中显露出病弱之身。衣纹线条圆润流畅,组织合理,外轮廓线随形贴体,内轮廓线转折自然,生动地表现出仕女紧裹衣袍趋步而行的动感。设色清丽淡雅,没有强烈的冷暖色调对比,简洁纯净的色彩有助于展示雅逸清幽的消闲意境。

When Ren Xiong was 25 years old, he made friends with Zhou Xiao in Qiantang, Zhejiang Province, and became close friends in art. Ren Xiong was invited to live in Fanhu Caotang for three years. He devoted himself to studying ancient paintings and discussing painting theory with Zhou Lei from time to time. He played in the pen and ink room. This painting is a combination of Ren Xiong's paintings and Zhou Lei's inscriptions. It not only confirms the friendship between the two people, but also shows the roughly creative age of the painting, that is, Ren Xiong's works between 25 and 28 years old. This picture shows a cold plum tree with criss-crossed branches and flowers blooming and flourishing. A lady came looking for plum in the cold wind.
