此轴描绘在狭窄的水道门口群舟争渡的热闹场面。晨雾迷濛的苏州阊门,一位显贵的官船正欲出城,与忙于进城的四乡小贩的群舟争道,官宦站立船头,颐指气使,正喝令群民让路,但急于进城谋生的众商贩针锋相对,并不相让,狭窄的水门一时拥堵不堪,而远处仍有小舟向阊门驶近。官船大而势孤,群艇小而势众。从人物形态的刻画中体现出画家对权贵仗势欺人的不屑以及对百姓小民身处疾苦之境的理解与同情。作品取材于实景,构思奇巧,在描绘苏州阊门的近景和局部方面较好地处理了画面的空间关系。
